Cycles
Inspired by the toughness and fragility of the natural world and its cyclical processes of regeneration and decay, this series reflects on the potential future(s) of our planet. Using steel, glass and stone for their symbolic and evocative qualities, the materials are layered and disguised - seeming to be growing from inside out or disappearing into one-another, blurring the lines between natural and urban. A contemplation on our increasingly polluted and industrialised environment and the threat of ecological disaster due to over-fishing, deforestation, and rising C02. Will the earth regenerate, grow and heal, or are we facing complete collapse? What is the vision for our future?
Several pieces from this series were shortlisted as finalists for the Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery (2018) in Gallery Funaki, Melbourne. The series has been exhibited in multiple clusters both in Europe and Australia, exhibiting at Galerie Marzee in the Netherlands; represented via Marzee at COLLECT Art Fair (Saatchi Gallery) in London, UK, as well as representation via the Alliages Association - exhibiting at Alliages Gallery in Lille, France; La Galeller Gallery in Seville and Gallery Lalabeyou in Madrid, Spain; ‘Schmuck’ and ‘Athens Jewellery Week’ fairs in Germany, Greece and online; as well as exhibitions in ‘Radiant Pavilion Jewellery and Object Biennial’ at No Vacancy gallery, Melbourne, and RMIT Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
